What We Do

At Agriculture Careers Australia, we inspire young people from our cities to get into careers in regional and rural Australia. With relevant information and real-life experiences, we ignite passions in young people to become future leaders in agriculture, environmental responsibility and making an important difference in regional and rural communities. We provide urban youth with opportunities to dream big, explore, and create a bright future for themselves and for our nation. 

We achieve this through the three Ts: Tell, Tour and Try.

Tell: Information Sessions

We visit city high schools, youth organisations, sports clubs and careers expos to talk about exciting job opportunities in regional and rural Australia. We show young people the enormous range of interesting careers such as working in agribusiness, taking care of animals, protecting the environment, starting businesses in rural areas, and using technology in farming.

We also assist urban youth appreciate rural life and it's benefits like affordable housing, close-knit communities, healthier living closer to nature, and the many opportunities to develop meaningful and rewarding careers. By doing this, we ensure that more young people have the opportunity to live and work outside the cities, bringing their skills, talents and energy to the rural regions of our nation.

Tour: Exploring

Following our information sessions, interested young people are invited to join a three-day tour so they can explore and gain a deeper understanding of living and working in regional and rural Australia. Participants visit farms, volunteer on meaningful projects, take part in workshops, learn from industry professionals and meet relevant education and training providers.​​

Through these experiences, participants gain valuable insights into the critical role agriculture and rural communities play in supporting Australia's economy, food security, and overall prosperity.

Try: Work Experience

The big challenge for city youth is accessing work experience in regional and rural Australia. Agriculture Careers Australia provides the solution. We organise a week of hands-on work experiences for a group of students in careers of their choice, all located within the same region. We provide transportation, accommodation, support, supervision and take care of all legal requirements.

These work experiences give young people from the city a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in regional and rural life. Most importantly, it bridges the gap between the city and country, creating meaningful connections, breaking down barriers and fostering confidence in new environments.
